Annnnd We're Back

Well hello there!! Ya boy is BACK from a nice two weeks off for paternity leave with the family. If you didn’t know my wife and I had baby #2, and he’s a healthy and very fast growing baby boy!!

I have A LOT to catch you up on so hold onto your britches….

Over the last 2 weeks I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about my content as a whole and what will benefit/interest you the most. So expect me messing around with formatting between telling you about some cool stuff I’ve learned/people I’ve met or a summary of a podcast like I’ve been doing! As always, I would love to hear which style/format you like the best! I’m like my mother— I love some emails!

In between all things new baby and "dad-ing” the past two weeks, I’ve been thinking back on being laid off from Vaco after 12 years of employment last year ago around this time. So it got me thinking…what if I was laid off again? What would I do? The same thing? So I put out a Twitter thread (yes always Twitter never X) so wanted to drop it in here for you….

  • I would immediately DM all the hiring managers I spoke with last year, whether I got an offer from them or not, to see if they are hiring.

  • there will be a lot of 'idk if I’m hiring right now, but let’s still chat' calls. you ABSOLUTELY need to take these. lot of times hiring managers just don't know what you do or the skills you've gained the last year so something could come out of these calls.

  • iterate on your resume. you probably haven't touched your resume (like me) in at least a year. so there will be a lot to add. and my resume is getting kind of long, so I would evaluate EVERY bullet point and if it’s not a home run bullet point then take it out.

  • start dm-ing folks that you’ve recently met at meetups/conferences or even within the last year. (this is why going to meetups/conferences is a big deal) bc most likely you will have rapport with that person immediately.

  • take some time to nail down your 'about me' statement. my current role has taught me a TON of new skills even in just a year, so I would have to sit for a minute and figure out how to work my past role into my current role and what value offering I could offer a company.

  • start to create a list of places and people you've spoken with/interviewed that are solid leads. and KEEP THEM CLOSE AND KEEP CHECKING IN those are the things that will fuel the start of your job search.

Happy to be back y’all!
